4 Tips To Help Treat Severe
Insomnia
If you suffer from severe insomnia, then you know how difficult sleeping comes for you.
Insomnia can mean a variety of things to different people but usually insomnia is referred to as trouble falling
asleep, trouble staying asleep or feeling very tired upon waking. Insomnia is the most popular complaint related to
sleeping in the United States.
The first thing you should do is consult with your doctor to
get an evaluation. This is just to be sure there isn't something else going on. Your doctor may be able to figure
out why you're having trouble sleeping, but either way you should make an appointment just to be
safe.
You don't have to take sleep aids to fall asleep every
night. This doesn't improve anything over the long term and you'll be stuck taking these pills to get to sleep all
the time. There are a number of natural things you can do to help prepare your body to fall asleep and stay asleep
so you are able to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.
- Establish a schedule for
yourself. Try to go to bed at the same time every day, preferably at night if you can. It can be
difficult to try and sleep during the middle of the day or when it's still light out. It's also important
to wake up at the same time everyday. You'd be surprised how well your body will respond to a regular
schedule.
- Save your bedroom for
sleeping. Don't do other activities in your bedroom besides sleeping or being intimate. Save the TV
watching for the living room or another room in the house.
- Exercise regularly. Exercise
is good for your physical and mental health. It can also help your body relax. After a workout, your body
will feel tired and after an exercise program has been followed, it may help you fall asleep faster and
sleep longer.
- Relax. This is a very
important step. Try to eliminate as much stress as possible and deal with the things you need to do deal
with to get them out of the way so you aren't worrying when you go to bed. Reading, bathing, exercising and
practicing yoga are very good ways to help your body relax. This can be especially helpful if done
immediately prior to going to bed.
Severe insomnia can
make you feel groggy, cranky and just not like yourself. If you create a schedule that you can follow, along with
adding in some exercise and making time for yourself to relax, you can drastically improve your ability to fall
asleep and stay asleep. When your body gets a good night's rest, it's a lot easier to wake up in the morning and go
about your day.
